Central Office Applications Engineer

Minimum/General Experience:

Minimum of three- (3) to five- (5) years experience in the telecommunications industry (in lieu of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering) in Central Office Applications design and detailed telephone central office engineering. Requires knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in telecom engineering in telephone Central Offices, Central Office remotes, Contained Environment Vaults (CEV), and wireless cell site huts.

Functional Responsibility:

Develops and prepares design and detailed engineering specifications for telephone Central Office switching and transmission facilities, utilizing outline information provided by the customer. Functions include, but are not limited to, design and detailed engineering drawings and support for the orderly construction and installation, modification and removal of toll equipment, telephone switching equipment, power systems, cable racks, telephony distribution frames, supporting AC power, wireless system cell site components and new emerging technologies such as broadband and customer-premises wireless solutions. Reviews customer order to assess telephony facilities and equipment requirements, and communicates with customer to resolve deficiencies and gain approval for changes. Prepares floor plans, telephony equipment layouts, space utilization, cost estimates, ensures standards are followed, orders equipment, prepares all job-related paperwork, monitors installation activities.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering (or 3-5 years equivalent experience in the telecommunications industry)
